Laser dentistry
At Clayton Market Dental, we use a soft tissue laser for a number of procedures that will improve your teeth, gums and oral health. Dr. Kooner is certified and trained to use the Picasso Dental Laser which is specifically designed to replace cutting with scalpels. The use of the Picasso Dental Laser reduces trauma and post-operative pain by coagulating the bleeding as it cuts, preventing unnecessary damage to surrounding tissues.
The Picasso Dental Laser eliminates the need for any incisions or stitching during treatments such as gum contouring and elimination of canker sores. The high energy beam disinfects the tissue and controls bleeding which helps minimize trauma and increase healing time.
The Picasso Dental Laser can be used for the following laser dentistry procedures:
- Gum contouring and shaping
- Frenectomies
- Removal of small growths on the gums and lips
- Elimination of cold sores and canker sores
- Periodontal therapy
DENTAL BONDING
If you have teeth that have stains that cannot be removed by bleaching, and veneers or crowns are not necessary, then cosmetic bonding might be a good option for you. We provide bonding, an affordable form of cosmetic dentistry in Surrey that is a quick way to repair many flaws or injuries, including:
- Gaps in teeth
- Spots or stains
- Chipped teeth
Dental bonding sculpts individual teeth without requiring removal of any tooth structure. This technique bonds a composite material that looks, acts and feels like the real thing, to an existing tooth. This procedure usually does not require the use of an anesthetic; is relatively quick to apply; gives an immediate result and is less expensive than veneers.
TEETH WHITENING
Take home whitening is a form of cosmetic dentistry in Surrey performed at our dental office. Take home teeth whitening is a simple, effective and convenient treatment to enhance your smile and improve the appearance of your teeth. Whitening your teeth can help lighten the stains and discolourations caused by foods, drinks, tobacco use and other factors so you can once again have a brilliant smile.
If you live in Langley, Surrey, Cloverdale or a nearby area and want to learn more about teeth whitening, please contact us and we can schedule a complimentary consultation.
PORCELAIN VENEERS
Porcelain veneers are thin layers of porcelain fixed onto teeth to enhance appearance, and in some cases, to protect the teeth. Veneers allow many patients to achieve a dramatic smile makeover without highly invasive treatments. The results are also durable and last a long time.
Veneers typically require 2-3 appointments. The first is a consultation to determine the desired look, and plan the shape of the veneers to achieve it.
During the second visit, the tooth surfaces will be prepared, by removing a very thin layer of enamel, and taking impressions of the teeth. Using these impressions, veneers are fabricated to fit onto the surfaces at a dental laboratory.
On the third visit, the dentist will apply a cleaning solution to prepare the tooth surfaces for bonding, and the permanent veneers will be cemented.
WHITE FILLINGS
Heath Risks of Mercury Tooth Fillings
While both amalgam fillings and white fillings are viable options, there can be some issues with amalgam fillings. One of the concerns is that mercury tooth fillings expand and contract with temperature fluctuations. This eventually weakens the structure of your teeth, which can cause your teeth to break or decay. Mercury tooth fillings also require removing large parts of your teeth. By drilling into the soft dentin to insert the mercury filling, the surrounding tooth structure may be significantly damaged. A fracture of your tooth may eventually require a dental crown or even root canal.
Mercury amalgam tooth fillings also release poisonous mercury vapor. There is no such thing as a harmless level of mercury, yet there are still dentists and patients who refuse to accept these facts.
Many people with mercury tooth fillings are having them replaced due to the damage they can do to the structure of the teeth, as well as health concerns.
Benefits of Tooth-Coloured Fillings/White Fillings
An excellent alternative to mercury is tooth-colored fillings made from composite materials or resin. Tooth-coloured fillings bond to your teeth and can actually strengthen them.
Tooth coloured fillings look like your natural tooth in colour, and are far less noticeable than mercury fillings. Tooth coloured fillings are much less sensitive to hot or cold temperatures, which is not the case for mercury fillings. Tooth coloured fillings require removing less of the natural tooth structure than does filling with mercury.
